Meet the riders: Ben Hardy, SLR
Ben Hardy, Senior Transport Planner at team sponsor SLR, is riding Knight Frank Cycle to MIPIM for the first time. As a long time cyclist, he's relishing the challenge but (like most people) dreading the early alarm calls.
Tell us about yourself and what you’re working on right now
I’m currently working on a number of schemes ranging from smaller residential schemes as part of the Hackney New Homes Programme to larger Masterplanning led developments including Land Northwest of Paddock Wood. I am also working on a number of industrial/warehousing schemes for clients including Amazon.
How did you get involved in Cycle to MIPIM?
I have cycled for a long time and ever since joining SLR, it has been something discussed in the office and something I have wanted to do. In late 2024 I was asked if I would be interested in taking part and of course jumped at the opportunity!
What are you most looking forward to?
Meeting new people and just enjoying the experience as a whole. In terms of the riding, probably the last days ride into Cannes (subject to good weather!)
What are you dreading?
The early starts…
How are you approaching training?
I’m doing what I can at the weekend, mixing riding with running weather the weather is really poor. I am also doing some MIPIM training rides including the Devil’s Punchbowl ride which took place in early February.
Any top tips you’ve picked up that you’ll take with you on the event?
Top tube bag for food!
What would you most like to get out of the event?
I want to meet new people, push myself and have a great experience.
What does the fundraising mean to you?
At the first rider briefing we were introduced to the charities associated with the ride. Learning about each of these and the incredible work they do was inspiring and added some extra motivation to training for and completing the ride.
What changes does your business expect to see over the next year?
We are getting more work in the renewables sector for wind and solar farms, along with seeing an increase in the number of data centres we are working on. I would expect this trend to continue in the next year.
