Meet the pedElle 2023 riders: Rebecca Hampson, DP9

Published on June 12, 2023

With pedElle 2023 just around the corner, we caught up with a number of riders from our partner companies. Rebecca Hampson, Senior Planner at DP9, is back to tackle pedElle's 10th anniversary edition for the second time...

Tell us a little about your and your job role:
I’m a planning consultant at DP9, a Town Planning Consultancy, and we work alongside developers, architects, and the wider project teams to get planning permission for new developments. I spend most of my time and really enjoy working on large masterplans. The latest central London project I am working on will seek to deliver circa 4,500 homes and 15,000 jobs. I also work on some special but smaller scale projects, including a development which will provide accommodation for Maltese cancer patients (predominantly children) receiving treatment in the UK.

Have you done pedElle before? I was lucky enough to join the 2021 Pedelle in Cumbria, nicknamed the ‘hilly one’.

What’s the one piece of advice you’d pass on to new riders? Eat more than you think!

How have you approached training? I bought myself a heavy-duty rain jacket, and I’ve tried to cycle everywhere, commuting daily and riding between meetings around London on my very clunky commuter bike. On my weekend rides I’ve gone for the hilly routes.

What are you most looking forward to about riding in Slovenia? The views. Slovenia looks absolutely stunning.

What are you not looking forward to? Falling over in my cleats.

How are you connecting with other pedElle riders? I’ve really enjoyed the group training rides and cinnamon bun stops.

How does the charity element of the ride keep you motivated? Being grateful that my body can do the distance and the opportunity this has given me to support Coram’s work for vulnerable children. Not everyone is so fortunate and being able to help support the charities will make the many miles all worthwhile.
