Charity spotlight: Voices Online Awards

Jul 02, 2020

This year, Club Peloton is delighted to be supporting the Voices Awards, a creative writing competition for children in care and young care leavers run by the charity Coram Voice. The theme for Voices 2020 is ‘Dreams‘.

Due to the ongoing lockdown restrictions this year’s awards ceremony will be held virtually from 5pm on 15th July 2020 on the Coram Voice YouTube channel. The ceremony will be hosted by award-winning Scottish actor and former Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi, and will also feature members of the competition judging panel announcing this year’s winners, including poet Mr Gee, children’s authors Lauren Child and Abi Elphinstone, and rap artist Ric Flo.

Club Peloton is sponsoring the ‘Care Leaver’s’ category. This quote is from last year’s Care Leavers category winner:

Winning the Voices writing competition last April gave me a newfound confidence in writing, and I have since been able to pursue a successful career within communications. I met my future boss at the competition award ceremony and was offered a role at a digital agency as a Creative Strategist for the work placement module of my masters. Due to this experience, I was able to land a managerial role straight out of University, and for the past year, I have managed the communications and marketing department of a London concert hall.

Being able to transfer your thoughts and feelings into words is a hugely empowering feeling. Have a go, even if you don't think that writing is your 'thing', you might just surprise yourself.”

Nick Hanmer, Chief Executive of Club Peloton, said: “We welcome the opportunity to be part of the sponsorship of these very special awards. Each year we are astounded by the creativity of every young person taking part and wish all the nominees the best of luck – we couldn’t be more honoured to support such deserving talent.”
