pedElle 2025 - Day 2 update
Spanish Point to Thurles - 202kms | 2,174m climbing
Day 2 dawns wild and windy - fitting for the first stage of the day along the Wild Atlantic Way. The riders head out into the weather, ticking off stage 1 into Ballyvaughan for a warm scone, a hot drink, and a minor family reunion, before heading back out into the wind and rain for stage 2.
With 117kms ticked off by lunch, the peloton is ready for the huge plate of delicious pasta, followed by apple pie, that awaits them at Pepper's Bar in Feakle.
Post lunch, the rain finally lets up. There's a short 24kms stage to the coffee stop in Ballina, with a restful lakeside setting, and then the group heads out for the fourth and final stage of the day, which includes a long 10km climb. Everyone climbs at their own pace with a regroup at the stop of the second climb, before the run into Thurles.
202kms in the bag today: 13 hours on the road and almost 10 hours in the saddle. It's been an incredible effort by everyone - and they're all smiling at what they've achieved today.
