Meet the riders: Graeme Kelly, SLR

Published on February 18, 2025

Graeme Kelly from team sponsor SLR is riding Knight Frank Cycle to MIPIM for the first time. Joining SLR has finally given him his opportunity to take part in the challenge, and he's looking forward to expanding his professional network - and getting in some early season base miles!

Tell us about yourself and what you’re working on right now:

I am a Director for Mobility and Transport Planning in SLR’s Edinburgh office.  At work I’m involved in a variety of transport planning projects in Scotland of all scales in both the energy and build environment sectors.

Away from work I’m married and have two teenage kids, but still manage to get out on my bike quite a lot...

How did you get involved in Cycle to MIPIM?

I’ve heard about Cycle to MIPIM for many years, so when I joined SLR last year I reached out and asked if I could get involved.

What are you most looking forward to?

Meeting new people while cycling through France in some hopefully lovely weather.

What are you dreading?

The 05.30 alarm.

How are you approaching training?

Mixing up midweek turbo sessions and longer rides at the weekend.  I might also have started carb loading a bit too early.

Any top tips you’ve picked up that you’ll take with you on the event?

Pack kit for all seasons, eat as often as you can, and bring every charger you own.

What would you most like to get out of the event?

To expand my professional network by meeting like-minded people who love cycling, while raising money for some great causes.  Early season base miles will also be very welcome.

What does the fundraising mean to you?

To be able to raise money for such great charities while doing something I love is a privilege. All I’m doing is riding my bike, the giving is thanks to the generosity of others.

What changes does your business expect to see over the next year?

Continued growth supporting the green transition within the energy sector.  Within the build environment we expect to see a greater shift towards vision-led transport planning.  This is a modern approach applied by SLR Consulting, and supports the objectives of the National Planning Policy Framework and net zero carbon policies of Local Planning Authorities. It can also promote the ESG objectives of developers and master planners.
