Meet the riders: Erin Gilliland, LGIM
Erin Gilliland from pedElle partner LGIM will be tackling pedElle 2024 for the first time. Here she tells us how she got into cycling and what she's looking forward to about this year's event.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you're working on right now:
I have worked in the LGIM Real Assets legal team since March 2023 (first as a legal secondee and how as in-house counsel). My background is in commercial property law.
How long have you been cycling and how did you get into it?
I have commuted in London by bike since 2010 and when I needed a new bike in 2014 after a bike theft, I happened to buy a second hand road bike and from there fell in love with road cycling.
How did you get involved in pedElle?
I had heard about pedElle from L&G clients whilst I worked in private practice. I thought it sounded great so had been keen to take part for a while. Once I started at L&G I jumped at the chance to join the team for 2024.
What are you most looking forward to? And what are you dreading?
Looking forward to getting out into the Polish countryside and getting to spending time with likeminded women out on the bike. Slightly apprehensive about the amount of climbing but am sure the team spirit will carry us up the hills!
How are you approaching training?
Trying to fit training in around work has been challenging, but I have been trying to do little and often mid-week and get out for a long weekend ride every weekend.
Any top tips you’ve picked up that you’ll take with you on the ride?
Always have a range of snacks close to hand.
What would you most like to get out of the event?
Getting to know the other riders and visiting Poland for the first time!
What business connections would you like to make on the event?
It’s great making connections outside of a work context with people in relevant industries.
