Meet the riders: Mark Sutton, Knight Frank
Mark Sutton is a chartered surveyor and Office Agency Partner at Knight Frank in Cardiff. He is riding his third Cycle to MIPIM. He's looking forward to putting his all-Welsh winter training into practice.
Tell us about what you’re working on right now:
I work with developers, occupiers, and landlords on leasing, refurbishments and sales of office space.
How did you get involved in Cycle to MIPIM?
I heard about it through Knight Frank, rode the first stage in 2022 and then was lucky enough to be offered a place in 2023.
How long have you been cycling and how did you get into it?
I got back into it around 2010, when I bought a bike and tried a few triathlons. I have had a few bike adventures since then.
What have you most enjoyed about riding previous Cycle to MIPIMs?
Riding through the snow line, Club Peloton’s fab team and the overall experience – my own Tour de France.
What are you most looking forward to?
The closed road and roundabouts! And seeing some old friends and making some new ones.
What are you dreading?
Easing onto the saddle on Day Four!
How are you approaching training?
I am in Wales – it’s been raining since October... I don’t mind the indoor trainer hours and then a big push on a Sunday whatever the weather!
Any top tips for new riders?
Speak to those who have done this before. Good prep and some top tips will make a big difference to the experience.
What would you most like to get out of the event?
Meet some new people and the sense of achievement. The South of France is a long way: it's two quite big days with four very big days in between.
What does the fundraising mean to you?
I stick to one fundraising project per year, so thanks to Cycle to MIPIM no Sleepout this year!
What changes does your business expect to see over the next year?
For me the tightening of the office market in Cardiff, where typically occupiers want a bit less space but are upgrading and the squeeze on premium offices is continuing to push up rents. Increased build costs aren’t helping us to deliver new space and supply is getting tight!
