Meet the riders: Amelia Johnson, DP9
Amelia Johnson from DP9, one of pedElle's partners, will be riding pedElle 2024 for the first time this year. Here's what she is hoping to achieve, both personally and professionally, by taking part.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you're working on right now:
Hi, I’m Amelia and I have been working at DP9 since September. I am working on a variety of masterplan projects all based in London alongside some smaller residential and office planning applications. Before starting at DP9 I was a Geography teacher for six years in a secondary school.
How long have you been cycling and how did you get into it?
I have been cycling for about seven years. I used to play hockey, but injury curtailed my playing days, so cycling was a good low impact alternative. I really got into cycling when training for an Olympic distance triathlon in 2016. I have done a few triathlons since and am actually doing the property triathlon at the end of the month. pedElle will be my first multi-day ride.
How did you get involved in pedElle?
Since starting at DP9, pedElle has been talked about constantly, so as soon as the opportunity was offered, I was keen to sign up and get involved.
What are you most looking forward to? And what are you dreading?
I am looking forward to the opportunity to meet new people through the ride. I have also never been to Poland! I am slightly worried about the distances we are cycling; I haven’t cycled that far before and hope my body holds up.
How are you approaching training?
I have been following a cycling training plan since January, but only cycling a couple of times a week. I was all indoors using Zwift until the weather improved in March. I was lucky to go on holiday to Cape Town in February and did some warm weather training!
Any top tips you’ve picked up that you’ll take with you on the ride?
Keep eating: don’t let your energy levels drop.
What would you most like to get out of the event?
Building connections and relationships with more people within my industry whilst having a good time.
What business connections would you like to make on the event?
Given that I am so new to the industry, it would be great to understand more about the roles within property that people hold and get to know people from other companies that are also involved in the planning process.
