Using Club Peloton for business development: Simple Works

Published on February 28, 2023

One of Club Peloton's three missions - in addition to cycling and the all-important fundraising - is networking. Many of our members have made long-lasting work contacts (and friends!) and initiated working relationships on a bike, and we'll be speaking to some of those who have found riding on one of our events a great way to support their business development.

We spoke to Sinead Conneely, one of the co-founders of the community-focused structural engineering consultancy Simple Works, about how participating in Club Peloton events has helped her find beneficial working relationships across a range of projects.

"We set up Simple Works in 2019 and within a few months of doing so, I was in Tuscany with a group of 55 amazing women for the pedElle ride. One of those women was Juliet Quintero who runs the architecture practice Dallas-Pierce-Quintero. We have since completed five projects with them, ranging from public realm interventions in Poole to a barn conversion in Kent. We have a few other things in the pipeline and hope to continue working together for a long time to come!

"I have now completed five multi-day cycles with Club Peloton as well as several single day events, and have ended up with a close network of friends who work across the industry which is what makes networking in this way so special. I think when you experience physical (and sometimes emotional) discomfort together, it breaks down certain barriers, and you end up bonding in a way that you would struggle to in a normal professional setting.

"Participating in these events has given me a chance to promote Simple Works to a much wider and more varied mix of people in the industry in relatively short periods of time, which I think I would have struggled to achieve in any other way for the same amount of energy. Another benefit to cycling to a conference with 80 people is that you arrive with a pre-made group of pals to hang out with during the conference!"
