Meet the riders: Nathan King, Connected Kerb

Published on February 17, 2023

One of the UK’s leading charging point providers, Connected Kerb is the first sponsor of the Knight Frank Cycle to MIPIM kit from Le Col. We speak to one of Connected Kerb's four riders, Nathan King, to get his thoughts on the upcoming charity relay.

Welcome to Knight Frank Cycle to MIPIM 2023. We’re very pleased you’re joining us for this epic relay from London to Cannes.  First of all, tell us a little bit about yourself.
Nathan King, Head of Operations for Connected Kerb. I am responsible for maximising operational performance of our network of chargers, by minimising downtime to our charging network, responding reactively and proactively to on site issues and keeping our customers happy.

What appealed to you about doing the charity relay?
It’s been a while since I participated in an event like this, and having three children, it’s a really positive way of me being able to inspire them to take on challenges they may feel are out of their reach. The ride is also for a great cause, helping transform the lives of younger people, so when asked by my CEO Chris Pateman-Jones, who is also doing the ride, it was a no brainer for me to get involved.

What are you most looking forward to?
Participating in a group ride and getting to know some new people and attempting to complete the full distance on my new bike.

What are you dreading?
Hills.

Tell us a bit about your cycling background:
I’ve previously participated in numerous triathlons from sprints to half iron mans and long distance rides such as; Ride100 , Tour of Wessex, London to Brighton and South Downs off road.

How are you approaching training?
I’m playing catch up and have pounds to lose! So I’ve been riding most days in my freezing cold garage, a couple of times a week in the gym, and will be looking to get out on the road once we get some drier weather in amongst balancing a job and three kids. It’s been interesting!

Any top tips you’ve picked up that you’ll take with you on the ride?
Spare clothes to avoid stinking out the peloton.

What would you most like to get out of the event?
A new network of contacts and potential ride groups.

What are the changes at Connected Kerb do you expect to see over the next year?
Significant growth in the business with thousands more chargers across the UK to bridge the gaps in residential charging across the industry

Why is Connected Kerb sponsoring the kit this year?

At Connected Kerb, we believe in honesty. There’s no point in being secretive about why we’re sponsoring the event, here’s why:

•    Cycle to MIPIM (organised by Club Peloton) is an event that is transforming the lives of young people by supporting a number of incredible projects. As a business, we truly believe in giving back and this is one of the many charitable initiatives we will be supporting in 2023.

•    We want to build a strong community within the real estate industry. There’s nowhere better to build relationships with future clients than on a shared challenge. Our sponsorship is about driving brand awareness for Connected Kerb in the UK real estate sector.

•    It’s no accident that people love working at Connected Kerb. Our culture is built on doing, rather than saying. This challenge is a way for our selected riders to come together, from training through to the actual ride. This event is one of the many examples of how we ensure company culture grows outside the office.
