The women woke up bright-eyed and ready to roll out of the quiet town of Rostock, Northern Germany. A shorter day today, at 148km, meant an earlier finish of around 5pm this afternoon – giving the riders time to unwind and reflect early on an eventful day.
Contrasting with yesterday, we’re now deep into the countryside areas of Germany. This morning saw us riding seemingly never-ending bending roads as we passed the sweet aroma of strawberry fields and poppy-littered bushes coming out of Rostock. The serenity was soon punctuated by cobbled streets which the women tackled with gusto before we paused for coffee and cake in the town of Laage. The second stage of the day, at 60km, continued to deliver roads lined with avenues of trees as we rode towards lunch in Krakow am See.
The afternoon was more challenging for the riders, with steeper hills splitting the peloton as we reached the halfway point of the final 65km. Taking the edge off the challenge were neat patches of indigo lavender fields and the Ride Captain’s speakers blasting motivating tunes from the back of the peloton. We can’t deny we’re not a little sad to be wrapping the ride up tomorrow!
