There are many new faces on pedElle this year, which made the energy and enthusiasm high as we rolled out of Copenhagen a few minutes ahead of the 7:30 scheduled start this morning before tackling the longest day at 178km.
The weather was on our side (minus a few headwinds!) with an overcast sky and mild temperatures earlier in the day turning into bright sunshine and highs of 22 degrees in the afternoon. A stop-start beginning as we rolled out of the bustling city streets of Copenhagen soon cleared as we reached the coastal area of Stroby Egede, where the sea air and strong coffee cleared our heads to spur the women into the second stage. The riders passed corn fields and forests as glimmers of countryside built up going through the small towns of Skibinge and Bjergmarken.
A buffet lunch in Vordingborg has taught the riders how manage their intake to fuel their time on the bike. We headed further into the depths of the country with sweeping roads lined with plains of crop fields before reaching the ferry port to wind down with another large buffet dinner before a short 12km ride to the hotel in Rostock, North Germany.
