All change with new headline sponsor and charity rebrand

London, 7 October 2015 – The launch of the property industry’s most high profile fundraising event, the annual cycle to MIPIM ride, ushered in a new era for the charitable organisation previously known as CYCLE TO…. Launching as Club Peloton, the charity’s commitment to creating business networks whilst raising money through cycling to improve the lives of disadvantaged young people remains unchanged. The new name reflects the evolution of the community that has grown out of uniting professionals through their participation in physically challenging cycle events.

As well as unveiling a new name, the recent launch event, held at The Foundling Museum in central London and hosted by cycling broadcaster Ned Boulting, also provided an opportunity for the event’s new headline sponsor to step into the spotlight. Legal & General is proud to take on the mantle of title sponsor for the next three years.

To a packed room of excited and nervous cyclists from the property industry, Bill Hughes, Head of LGIM Real Assets, explained, “Our sponsorship of the cycle to MIPIM ride in 2016 serves several purposes. It gets us to the conference in Cannes whilst minimising our carbon footprint, gives us some full-on exercise within a first class endurance challenge, and will provide us with unparalleled networking opportunities. We are also delighted to be involved in raising money for Coram and supporting safer cycling. We hope our support of the event will encourage the widest possible participation across the UK’s property and infrastructure investment industry.”

Dr Carol Homden, Chief Executive of Club Peloton’s main beneficiary charity Coram, explained why the ride is so crucial to their work, “The funds raised by the efforts of everyone who cycles to MIPIM will change the lives of the invisible children who desperately need our help. Through Coram’s work as a leading voluntary adoption service we change the lives dozens of vulnerable children each year, delivering them from deprivation and hardship into the arms of a new loving adoptive family. The ways in which children need help might have changed in the 275 years since Thomas Coram first created the charity as a home for orphaned children, but it’s never been more important to help the many who find themselves in desperate situations today through no fault of their own.”

Nick Hanmer, CEO of Club Peloton, talked about the rebrand and its implications for all cyclists from all the charity rides past, present and future. “We’re very pleased to have launched The Legal & General Cycle to MIPIM 2016 under our new brand Club Peloton, symbolising the value of the network that has been built by all our riders over the years. Club Peloton now exists as an umbrella for anyone who has cycled in any of our events and allows us to develop the individual personality of each of the events we host across a whole range of industries, from property to security.”

The Legal & General Cycle to MIPIM 2016 will see 100 riders from the property industry donning Lycra and taking to their carbon steeds to cycle 1,500km from London to Cannes in six days. The property industry’s biggest and toughest cycling challenge takes place from 10th-15th March and full support – in the form of motorcycle outriders, support vehicles, mechanics and masseurs – will be on hand, giving every cyclist the experience of what’s it’s like to be a pro rider.

Two-thirds of funds raised by the ride will go to the principal charity partner, Coram, the UK’s first dedicated children’s charity. For over 275 years it has been helping the most vulnerable children overcome hardship and trauma. Article 25, Emthonjeni Trust, Multiple System Atrophy Trust and Tom’s Trust are the other charities supported by the event.
