Last week’s Legal & General Real Assets pedElle Rider Information evening was an opportunity for this year’s riders to get together and find out what they need to know ahead of the event in May. An ideal opportunity for first time riders to ask the questions most troubling them, there were four stations set up to provide as many of the answers as possible. These covered advice on training, nutrition, kit and fundraising/PR and were staffed by previous pedEllers, including Ride Captains, and members of the Club Peloton team.
Knowing how to train for, and what to eat on, a multi-day ride is a challenge even for experienced riders but as the fifth pedElle approaches, there is plenty of previous experience to draw on. From skills training to hill reps, spin classes to longer weekend rides, there’s plenty of opportunity for the pedElle cyclists to get together ahead of the event and get their cycling fitness up to scratch ahead of the main event. Nutrition, too, is one of the most important on-event things to get right, as is knowing what kit to bring and wear – not enough or too much, and cycling can be an uncomfortable experience.
After rotating through the four stations, Nick Hanmer, Club Peloton’s Chief Executive, took to the floor to talk riders through the event, giving an overview of each day’s distance and climb profile as they ride from Porto to Lisbon over three days. He was joined by Chris Clarke, Events Director, and some of the Ride Captains, to answer questions about overall speed, climbing and descending skills and training. This year’s pedElle will be the biggest to date but if the enthusiasm of the riders at the Rider Information evening is anything to go by, it also promises to be one of the best.
