Last Thursday evening provided an opportunity to relive the Cycle to MIPIM memories at the Legal & General Real Assets Cycle to MIPIM 2017 rider reunion. Held at Legal & General’s offices, the room was full of buzz as riders arrived and mingled, with everyone excited about seeing each other again, and were treated to drinks and French-themed food, including rare steak slices with frites, savoury palmieres and macarons.
Nick Hanmer, Club Peloton’s CEO, kicked proceedings off by thanking everyone for the biggest Cycle to MIPIM ride yet and showing the video from day 5, the last night in Aix, which riders were probably too tired to remember at the time. He thanked everyone for their brilliant fundraising efforts and handed over a cheque for an incredible £612,712 to Dr Carol Homden, CBE, Chief Executive of Coram. Carol thanked the riders for their hard work, and talked about the amazing work that Coram will do with the money raised by this year’s riders, followed by a reading of a heartfelt poem from a child whose life has been changed by Coram.
Nick then handed over to Bill Hughes, Head of LGIM Real Assets, who shared his amazing experience on the ride and how it had built on the previous year’s event. He also thanked Macfarlanes, all the sponsors and the Club Peloton team for all their hard work and for supporting the ride.
Bill introduced Christian Spencer-Davies and James Campbell to hand out the award for ‘Knob du Jour’. There were three nominees – Jerry Tate, Gary Richardson and Adam Kerr – all nominated for an embarrassing thing that had happened on the ride. The winner was Adam Kerr, for his epic crash with Charlie Tweddle that led to him sporting a fetching tyre mark on his face for much of the day!
After the speeches, everyone stayed to chat and share their experiences on the road and their plans to do it again next year. Riders were given photobooks, full of memories from this year’s event, and given a date for their diary – the launch of Legal & General Real Assets Cycle to MIPIM 2018 on 10th October. Make sure to mark it in!
