Last Friday morning, 27 Club Peloton riders gathered at the Martin’s Pond pub in Berkhamsted (newly opened that day just in time for the event) for a very special Club Peloton ride – celebrating the milestone of reaching £1 million raised in grants for principal beneficiary Coram since 2012.
The morning began with a breakfast of tea, coffee and bacon butties, followed by a quick ‘on the road etiquette’ briefing from Ride Captain Matt Bugg. Coram’s Alice Lamb, Head of Corporate Partnerships, and Amy Story, Corporate Account Executive, were there to see the peloton off with some words of encouragement for the part they have played.
There were some new faces amongst the crew of Club Peloton riders past and present who set off into the early morning sunshine. The route took in 100km of beautiful Berkhamsted countryside, from rolling fields and forests through villages including Little Gaddesden, Holywell, Billington, Aldbury, Tring and Amersham, following in the footsteps of many of the Coram foundlings who grew up in this area.
In between tackling some tough climbs – including Ivinghoe Beacon, Dancer’s End and Flaunden Hill – the riders were treated to a coffee stop at the picturesque Bluebell’s Tea Rooms, nestled next to a stream, with huge slices of cake and scones. They then headed back to Martin’s Pond for a great lunch of homemade steak pie and mash.
The day was a great way to commemorate all the riders who, over five years of Cycle to MIPIMs, Cycle to MAPICs and pedElles, have now raised £1 million for Coram. The funds primarily go to Coram Adoption, which finds and prepares adoptive parents, places vulnerable children in permanent and loving homes and provides adoptive families with a lifetime of support.
Alice Lamb commented, “Coram and Club Peloton have been on an incredible journey throughout the last five years, a journey that has exceeded all expectations. This remarkable partnership has impacted the lives of hundreds of vulnerable children across the UK, helping them to find the families they so desperately need. A huge thank you to Club Peloton and all riders for raising such an amazing amount for Coram – you really are one in a million!”
We couldn’t agree more, and to each and every one of our riders – thank you and chapeau.
