THE KING’S CROSS CYCLE TO MAPIC 9-13th NOVEMBER 2018
When? 9th – 13th November 2018 – 4 days of riding
Where? Girona to Cannes (700km)
Following the success of the flagship Cycle to MIPIM, we launched a second annual fundraising challenge event in 2013, Cycle to MAPIC. However, unlike Cycle to MIPIM, riders are required to ride the whole distance together, making this multi-day challenge a tough one.
The ride is aimed at cyclists from the retail property industry, and starts from a different city each November before mapping a varied and testing route to Cannes in time for the international retail property market, MAPIC. The bar was raised from 2015’s event, with the distance lengthened and the number of days in the saddle increased from three to four.
As with other Club Peloton events, riders will experience road cycling from an elite rider’s perspective, including a full crew comprising mechanical support, medics, sports injury therapists, motorcycle outriders and lead car, as well as UK support staff, leaving them free to concentrate on turning the pedals and raising money for Club Peloton’s charity partners.
ITINERARY OF THE RIDE
Girona, situated in Spain’s northeastern Catalan region, is not only a vibrant city full of medieval architecture and bustling nightlife but the base for both amateur and professional cycle training camps. With an early flight, there will be plenty of time to explore the city before dinner.
The lead car and motorcycle outriders will lead us from Girona, as they will continue to do throughout the ride, ensuring we don’t have to worry about directions or traffic. We ride through beautiful Catalonia, towards the stunning coast for a series of climbs. This is where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean and we cross from Spain into France. Past Perpignan, a stunning city, we head inland to Rivesaltes.
The longest, but by far the most picturesque, day of the tour. We start the day off with a fantastic climb and descent through Narbonnaise en Mediterranee Natural Regional Park. Heading towards the coast, we hit one of the largest ports on the French Mediterranean – Cap D’Agde, onto Sète before reaching the stunning seaside resort of La Grande Motte and a hotel room that looks directly onto the marina.
One of the less demanding days! We head directly east through Arles, well known for its Camarguais culture and ancient Roman links before crossing the Rhone and up into another beautiful regional park just north of Salon de Provence. There’s a final climb before the descent into Aix en Provence, a city known for its wine, chocolates, and lavender fields – for the final night.
We’ve saved the best until last, the final day into Cannes is one of the most challenging in terms of climbing but really rewarding with stunning views. The first climb starts almost immediately, a tight and winding 15km ascent, followed by a fantastic sweeping descent with mountains on your left and vineyards on your right. The climbs continue up until lunch in Montauroux before the final stretch, along the (hopefully) sunlit Croisette and into Cannes.
Family, friends and colleagues will be there to welcome you in, and after a brief pause on the Croisette to soak up the atmosphere, you’ll head to the Kings Cross Cycle to MAPIC drinks reception to celebrate.
Ride cost: £1,799
You must also commit to raise an additional £1,000 minimum in fundraising.
